Tough Draw In Season Opener
BLOOMINGTON, Minn.(3/07/21)---Concordia ran into a quality experienced St. Catherine squad in the 2021 season opener and lost 9-0 in Bloomington.
The Cobbers drew a tough opening-round opponent to start the new year as the Wildcats were unbeaten in 2020 and didn't lose a MIAC match in the abbreviated season.
Concordia was never able to build any momentum in doubles play and that carried over to the singles competition.
The Cobbers No.3 doubles tandem of Emily Savageau and Liv Meinders were locked in the closest match. They lost 8-3 and were the final match still playing in doubles competition.
Sophomore Raquel Egge was the only Concordia player to win games in both sets in individual play. Egge fell 6-1, 6-1 in the No.1 singles match.
COLLEGE DEBUTS: Concordia had a pair of athletes make their college tennis debut. Meinders got her first collegiate experience in both singles and doubles play. Besides her match at No.3 doubles, she was also slotted in the No.6 singles spot and fell 6-1, 6-0. Anna Hacker stepped on the college tennis court for the first time when she played in the No.4 singles bout. She lost 6-0, 6-1.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 12-day break before returning to action. Unfortunately for the Cobbers they will face another undefeated team from last year. CC will host Gustavus on Friday, Mar. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
