Records Like Jaeger

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (02/17/22)---It was a year in the making. Ever since first-year swimmer Hailey Jaeger jumped off the blocks in the team's first meet in November, the school record in the 50-yard freestyle was within reach. On Thursday, Jaeger reached that goal and broke the 10-yaear-old program mark in the prelims of the MIAC Championship Meet.

Jaeger touched the wall on the all-out sprint in a time of 24.59 which broke the old record of 24.97 set in 2012 by Kirsten Anderson.

Jaeger's time in the prelims also qualified her for the finals where she broke the old record for a second time with a mark of 24.74. Her time in the "B' final was good for 12th place and five team points.

Jaeger's points in the 50-yard freestyle helped Concordia score 26 points on Day 20 and finish with a 2-day total of 70 points. That total is currently in eighth place – only one point away from seventh place.

The other individual to score team points for the Cobbers was first-year diver Kiernan Darling. Darling scored 293.45 points in her first collegiate 3-meter competition in a championship meet. She was only 43 points away from qualifying for the finals. Kiernan's total was good for 14th place which picked up three team points.

Rachel Andersen, Brienna Timm and Jess Bray had the other top individual finishes on Day 2. Andersen swam a 6:00.20 in the 500-yard freestyle which was a season-best time by 8.24 seconds. Timm came home in 2:31.22 in the 200-yard individual medley relay which put her in the No.27 spot at the conference meet and was a season-best time by 8.88 seconds. Bray also swam in the 50yard freestyle – and also clocked a season-best time. Bray raced to a 26.58 in the prelims which bettered her previous season best by .59 of a second.

The only relay event of Day 2 was the 400-yard medley relay. The Cobber quartet of Camille Gunderson, Emily Oswald, Audrey Zeleny and Timm posted a time of 4:42.08 which placed them ninth and earned 18 team points.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to post more season-best times when they compete on Day 3 of the MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Friday, Feb. 18. The prelims start at 10:30 a.m. and the finals begin at 6:30 p.m.
