Celebrating The Senior

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/02/18)---Concordia celebrated their lone senior before the meet and then finished off their "regular season" with their dual against MSU Moorhead on Friday.

Ann Marie O'Connell was honored before the Cobbers meet against the Dragons and then started the meet by swimming the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay. O'Connell finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly during the meet with a season-best time of 1:09.19 as she continues to get back into meet shape after spending the first semester studying in India.  

Concordia used the meet as another step towards the MIAC Championship Meet in two weeks. Freshman Anna Backes was the only event winner for CC as they lost 183-43 to MSU Moorhead.

Backes swam a 57.63 in the 100-yard freestyle to best a pair of Dragons who finished less than two seconds off the winning mark. Backes' finishing time is also a touch off her team-best mark of 57.23 which she posted in the second meet of the season.

It was another Cobber first-year swimmer who had the second highest finish for a Concordia athlete at the meet. Hannah Murray touched the wall in 2:20.42 in the 200-yard freestyle and was second in the event. Murray also had a Top 3 finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Murray came home in 6:19.96 and placed third in the event.

The freshman parade continued for Concordia as Allison Marcus was third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:28.96 and Amy Warren was third in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:04.87. Warren was also fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.04.

Junior Ciara White had the other Top3 finish for CC on the night. She cruised to a 1:14.97 and was third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Cobber diver Cassandra Bohnsack scored season best numbers in both ends of the 1-meter diving competition. She had 130.85 points in the first round and then scored 167.40 in the second section.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will now start the fine tuning portion of their schedule as they will train for two weeks before competing in the MIAC Championship Meet on Feb. 15-17.
