3 Event Wins And Diver Highlight Dual

MORRIS, Minn. (1/20/18)---Amy Warren, Anna Backes and Ciara White all won individual events but it wasn't enough as the Cobbers fell 125-84 at Minn.-Morris in the first dual meet of the 2018 calendar year.

While the trio of Cobber swimmers provided victories on the day it was lone CC diver Cassandra Bohnsack who had one of the biggest highlights. Bohnsack recorded her season-best score in the 1-meter diving competition. Bohnsack put up 301.30 points in the 11 dives which qualified her for the MIAC Championship Meet.

Warren claimed the first individual event win for Concordia at the dual meet. She swam a 4:59.99 in the 400-yard individual medley and won the event by almost 10 seconds. Her time is just off a season best as she continues to be in the Top 10 of the MIAC for her season best time.

Backes earned the Cobbers second win of the day five events later when she took the victory in the 500-yard freestyle. Backes clocked a 5:40.70 which nipped the next fastest swimmer by less than one second. Backes' winning time is a season best for the freshman.

The final event victory came from one of the Cobbers' most consistent winners this season. Junior Ciara White cruised to a 1:15.90 in the 100-yard breaststroke and won the event by almost two full seconds.

Concordia finished off the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Cobber quartet of Backes, White, Hannah Murray and Ann Marie O'Connell swam a 4:16.58 to gain the win.

WELCOME BACK: Cassandra Bohnsack's season-best score in the 1-meter diving event qualified her for the MIAC Championship Meet. It's been awhile since the Cobbers had a diver compete at the conference meet. The last time a CC diver earned a spot at the MIAC Meet was back in 2014. The history of the Cobber program is rich with divers who won the conference championship including NCAA National Champion Annie Cullen and All-American Emily Hall.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will now square off against MIAC competition when they head to St. Paul to compete at the Augsburg/Hamline Triangular Meet on Friday, Jan. 26 and then at St. Catherine on Saturday, Jan. 27.
