Robinson Strikes Twice To Help Cobbers To 3rd Straight Win
|Shots (on goal)||4 (4)||10 (7)|
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/10/22)---Sophia Robinson's two second-half goals proved to be the difference in Concordia's 2-0 non-conference win over Wis.-Stout.
The win is the third straight for the Cobbers who are now 3-1-0 on the season. Stout has its 2-game unbeaten string come to an end and falls to 1-3-1.
Concordia held the majority of the offensive zone time in the game but couldn't get on the board until the 52nd minute of play. The Cobbers didn't concede a corner kick in the game and outshot the Blue Devils 10-4 in total shots.
Robinson would score the game winner off of a dead ball after she drew the foul by dribbling through the middle of the Stout defense. Robinson was pushed from behind, 35 yards out from goal and the Cobbers were awarded a free kick. Robinson calmly stepped up to take the kick and lofted a shot towards the upper right corner of the net. The Stout keeper tried to push the ball over the crossbar, but the ball flew over her hands and into the net.
Robinson's second strike came courtesy of a picture-perfect set up from defender Emily Larsen and wing Hannah Mukhtar. Larsen stepped up to midfield to take a potential through ball away from the Blue Devils. Her 1-time clearance went to the left wing where Mukhtar settled the high ball perfectly with her chest and then took a touch before playing the ball to Robinson who was running free in the middle of the field. Robinson proceeded to 1-time a shot from the top of the penalty area that slid inside the left post and into the side netting.
Robinson's insurance strike at 83:06 was her team-leading fourth of the season and gives her a CC-best nine total points. Mukhtar recorded her second assist in as many games, and Larsen picked up her first helper of the year.
Concordia didn't allow a shot for the final 7-minutes of play which preserved the shutout for junior goalie Kaitlin Petrich. Petrich made four saves to post her second career shutout.
UP NEXT: Concordia will put its win streak on the line when they host Macalester in the MIAC opener on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
