Corner Kicks Are Costly
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/05/21)---It was just one of those days. Concordia gave up a goal in the very first minute of play, could never get on track and lost 5-0 to Loras.
The Cobbers gave up four goals off of corner kick situations as they dropped their third straight game to start the season. Loras wins for the third straight time and is now 3-0 on the year.
The first minute of play was a bad omen for the Cobbers as they conceded a corner kick just 11-seconds into the game. Loras was able to get on the board from the ensuing dead ball and put CC in a 1-0 hole after only 40 ticks on the clock.
Concordia's best chance on goal came in the 25th minute of play when Lindsey Hildenbrand broke free on a breakaway and fired a hard, low shot that was headed for the corner of the net. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, the Loras goalie was able to get to the ball and make the goal-stopping save.
The Duhawks doubled their lead 12 minutes later when they notched their only non-corner kick goal of the game.
CC trailed 2-0 at the break but then ran out of gas from the long weekend in the second half. The Cobbers conceded a third goal at 57:05 and then gave up two goals in the final three minutes of play.
Concordia was outshot 12-4 in shots on goal for the game. Hildenbrand led CC with a pair of shots while Grace Lawlor and Amber Weiybe had one each.
Sophomore Bre Nelson played the first 62 minutes in goal for the Cobbers and made three saves. Freshman Kaitlin Petrich finished off the final 28 minutes of play and stopped four shots.
UP NEXT: Concordia will host three games next week as they finish off a 5-game home stand. The Cobbers will face Minn.-Crookston on Wednesday and then battle Minn.-Morris and Neb. Wesleyan on Friday and Sunday in the annual Cobber Invite.
