Cobbers Pull Close In Second Half, But Fall In Home Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/03/21)---Concordia gave up a pair of goals in each half and lost 4-1 to Wis.-Eau Claire in the home opener.

While the score shows a 3-goal advantage, the Cobbers cut the Blugolds lead to 2-1 in the first 15 minutes of the second half but then Eau Claire scored a pair of goals in a span of less than four minutes to put the game away.

The game featured a ton of substitutions as each team went to their bench for the early-season match-up that was played in warmer temperatures. The teams combined to have 49 players see action during the game.

Eau Claire scored the first two goals of the game in the first 16 minutes of the opening half. The first goal of the contest was an own goal for the Cobbers. One of the CC defenders had the ball carom off her shin and into the net. The goal came at the 2:26 and immediately put the Cobbers on their heels. The Blugolds doubled the early lead with a tally at 15:39.

Concordia was able to get out of the first half with just the 2-goal deficit and then started the second half like a completely different team. The Cobbers came out with a more aggressive attitude and started to press forward to get chances at the Eau Claire goal.

Concordia had a pair of shots sail wide in the first 10 minutes of the half, and was finally rewarded for their play in the 58th minute when Samantha Dalsin took a feed from Lauren Tschider and sent a shot from 20 yards out over the Eau Claire goalie's head and underneath the crossbar.

The Blugolds finished off the scoring with a goal off a corner kick at 66:28 and then another off the run of play at 70:11.
