Cobbs Stumble Against St. Catherine

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/02/19)---Concordia controlled the early part of their conference match-up with St. Catherine but then allowed a trio of goals in the final 17 minutes of the opening half and two more in the first 10 minutes of the second period and lost 5-1.

The Cobbers held possession of the ball in the Wildcat end in the first 15 minutes of play and got off a pair of shots and were awarded a corner. The game turned in St. Kate's favor in the 29th minute when they scored the first of their three goals in the first period. The Wildcats added two more in a span of less than two minutes just before the break to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

St. Catherine (7-3-0. 3-1-0 MIAC) then pushed the lead to 5-0 with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Concordia (7-4-0, 0-4-0 MIAC) notched their lone goal of the game off of a corner kick in the final five minutes of play. Senior Kalli Baarstad served the ball into the SCU penalty area where freshman Sophia Robinson and a St. Kate's defender challenged for the ball. The cross bounced off the SCU player and went to Cobber freshman Grace Lawlor who flicked the ball backwards from 6-yards out. The unexpected shot fooled the Wildcat goalie and it slid into the net.

The unassisted goal was Lawlor's second of the season.

Concordia was outshot 16-5 in total shots for the game and 9-2 in shots on goal. The Cobbers had five different players with a single shot in the game.

Lexi Jemtrud played the first 60:48 in goal and made four saves. Junior Erin Larsen finished off the final 29:12 and didn't make a save.

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to rebound when they host Hamline on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3:30 p.m. The Pipers are 4-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in MIAC play.
