A Perfect Ending To Homecoming Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/04/15)—Sadie Hayes added to her Homecoming legacy as she scored her second goal in as many games on Homecoming weekend and helped Concordia beat Wis.-Stevens Point 2-1.

Hayes and Emily Wendorff combined to give the Cobbers enough offensive output for their second win on the weekend. The victory also pushes Concordia's record over the .500 mark at 6-5. The Pointers have now lost eight straight and fall to 2-11 for the year.

Hayes, who was named the Concordia Homecoming Queen on Thursday and then scored the game-winning goal on Saturday, put the Cobbers ahead in the ninth minute of play when she headed home a service from Paige McCullough on a corner kick.

It was the second goal directly from a corner kick for Hayes on the weekend and the fifth time Concordia has scored on a corner kick this season. The Cobbers did not have a single goal off of a corner kick in all of last year.

Concordia continued to press the Stevens Point goal and looked to put the game out of reach when Wendorff scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at 31:25. The Cobbers had the momentum and looked like they would cruise to the win but then the Pointers got on the board less than two minutes after Wendorff scored.

Wendorff's goal came after the ball had been cleared out of the Pointer penalty area on the left side of the field. Wendorff stepped up and won possession and then fired home a shot that found the far side netting from 20 yards out. Wendorff's six goals matches her output from last year and gives her 16 for her career.

Both teams would have chances throughout the remainder of the first half and into the second half but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Concordia had two breakaway shots go wide of the target and Stevens Point had an open 12-yard attempt stopped by goalie Elizabeth Bitzan.

Concordia outshot the Pointers 16-9 in total shots for the game and 7-5 in shots on goal. Wendorff and McCullough each had a team-high four shots for the game.

Bitzan stopped four shots to earn her sixth win of the year.
