Offense Goes On Mid-Semester Break

DUBUQUE, Iowa (10/20/14)—Concordia's offense, like the students at the college itself, has packed up and left for mid-semester beak, as the Cobbers were shutout for the second straight game and lost 1-0 at Loras.

Concordia has now lost two straight games for the first time all season and falls to 11-3-1. Loras wins for the fourth straight games and is now 10-6-0 in all games in 2014.

The game was eerily similar to their 2-0 loss at Bethel last Wednesday when Concordia controlled the middle part of the field and limited the amount of quality chances at the defensive end but were never able to get a clear chance on goal in the offensive penalty area.

The game against the Duhawaks was decided in the 82nd minute when Loras was able to volley home the only goal of the game after Concordia conceded a corner kick.

One of the highlights for the Cobbers in the game came midway through the first half when CC goalie Elizabeth Bitzan stopped a Loras penalty kick. Concordia was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area and Bitzan was able to dive to her left to make a stop on a low shot on the ensuing penalty kick.

Concordia stepped up the pressure in the second half, putting up 13 total shots with five shots on goal. The Cobbers were unable to get behind the Loras defense and had to settle for contested shots from around the top of the penalty area.

The Cobbers outshot the Duhawks 19-17 in total shots for the game. Loras had a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore forward Emily Wendorff had a team-high five total shots with one shot on goal. Senior midfielder Laura Prosinski had four shot shots.

Bitzan made five saves in goal for Concordia.

The Cobbers will finish off the regular season with three conference games. Concordia needs only one win to clinch its 12th consecutive MIAC playoff berth. The Cobbers will begin their three-game quest for the playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they host Carleton at 1 p.m.
