Another Saturday, Another Overtime, Another Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/11/14)—For the third straight Saturday Concordia had to go to overtime to decide a conference contest and for the second straight Saturday the Cobbers were able to come up with the game-winning goal in the second overtime.

Concordia and Hamline battled a heavy end-to-end wind for the entire 90 minutes of regulation and couldn't come up with a goal. It wasn't until the fifth minute of the second overtime when junior forward Morgan Holm won the ball on the right wing, beat and defender and then crossed the ball into the penalty area. Emily Wendorff was able to collect the ball before the Piper defense could close her down. Wendorff then hit a shot into the left side of the net to give CC the league victory.

The 1-0 win over the Pipers pushes Concordia's unbeaten streak to 10 games. The Cobbers have now gone an entire month without suffering a loss. CC is 9-0-1 during that span. Concordia is now 11-1-1 overall and remains atop the MIAC standings with a 6-0-1 mark.

The Cobbers went against the 15-25mph wind in the first half and wasn't able to come up with a shot. Hamline had three shots in the first 45 minutes of play and all three were on net.

Concordia then went with the wind in the second half and had seven shots while the Pipers were held without a shot for the entire 45 minutes.

The pattern of not being able to attack against the wind turned around in the overtime periods. Both teams created one shooting chance going against the wind. Hamline wasn't able to put their lone chance on goal in the first overtime and then Wendorff connected on her fifth goal of the season at the 104:50 mark.

Concordia held an 8-4 edge in shots for the game and earned a slight 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Senior midfielder Laura Prosinski led all players with three shots in the game.

Cobber goalie Elizabeth Bitzan made three saves in earning her second straight shutout and MIAC-leading eighth shutout of the season. Bitzan also lowered her season goals against average to 0.58.

Concordia will now head out on the road for two straight games. CC will start their two-game road trip when they play at Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
