Bio

Barner was hired as the Cobbers' full-time assistant coach in the spring of 2019. He arrived at Concordia after serving as the top assistant at Simpson College for two seasons.

Before his time at Simpson, Barner was the head coach at Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. Barner was the head coach after the school reinstated wrestling after a 37-year break. He guided Northeastern to a Top25 finish in the country in 2016-17 and during that season Northeastern had one All-American and advanced three wrestlers to the national championship meet.

Barner was an assistant coach at Briar Cliff in Iowa before his head coaching position at Northeastern. During his time at Briar Cliff he helped coach two All-Americans and eight national meet qualifiers.

Barner graduated from Central College in 2014 with a major in exercise science and went on to earn his master's degree in business administration from Briar Cliff in 2015. He lettered three times during his undergraduate days at Central. Barner started his college career at Iowa Central Community College where he was a part of two national championship teams and earned All-America honors.
