Never A Doubt

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (01/22/22)---Concordia left little doubt as to whether they would be able to handle its dual meet with former MIAC rival St. John's. The Cobbers won all nine contested individual matches and rolled to a 47-0 win over the Johnnies.

The victory is the ninth straight against St. John's, and CC has won 14 of the past 16 dual battles between the schools.

The Cobbers earned four wins by forfeit at the meet. Concordia was staked to an 18-0 lead after earning wins at 133, 141 and 149. Both teams left the 125-lb weight class open.

The first contested weight came at 157 where Tyler Bents scored a decisive 14-5 major decision. The win was Bents' seventh of the season and 23rd of his career.

Senior Bret Wilson stepped to the mat at 165 and proceeded to record one of the two pins on the night for Concordia. He put his opponent's shoulders to the mat in the first minute of the second period to give CC a 28-0 lead. The pin was Wilson's first of the year and earned him his 43rd career victory.

Jaykob Mills got the forfeit win at 174 before Ayden Friese, Gabe Zierden and Chase Dockter all posted victories to bring the final team total to 47-0.

Friese didn't allow his opponent to score a point and won 8-0 at 184. For Friese, it was his 11th win of the year.

Zierden took out his recent slump on his opponent at 197. Zierden, who was ranked as high as No.4 before dropping two of his last three matches, wasted little time in posting a pin in the first period. Zierden is now ranked No.15 in the nation and has a record of 8-3 for the season.

Dockter recorded the only decision win of the match. He outfought his opponent at 285 to come away with a 3-1 win. Dockter who has posted close losses against two of the Top 10 wrestlers in DIII in his last four matches is also 8-3 on the year.
