Dual-Meet Opener Goes South Down The Stretch

ABERDEEN, S.D. (11/11/21)---Concordia kicked off its dual-meet season by heading down I-29 to take on Northern State. The Cobbers gained the early momentum by winning two of the first three matches, but then dropped seven straight bouts to lose 37-9 to the Division II Wolves.

Senior Cole Kubesh started the meet for Concordia at 125. He trailed 4-3 after recording a reversal at the start of the second period but then conceded a reversal in the second and a takedown in the third and lost 9-3.

Freshman Ty Bisek has been one of the standouts for the Cobbers in the first two meets of the year. He went 3-2 and finished third at the season-opening Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday. He carried that success into his first collegiate dual meet.

Bisek had a takedown and a 4-point near fall in the opening period, had another takedown in the second before putting his opponent's shoulders on the mat at the 6:51 mark. Bisek is now 4-2 on the season and has posted three wins by pin.

Senior Jacob Prunty gave Concordia a 9-6 lead when he rallied to post a 3-2 decision ay 141. Prunty gave up a takedown in the opening period, but tied the score with a reversal from the down position to start the second. Prunty won the match by virtue of riding time.

The victory was Prunty's first of the season after battling against a pair of tough Division I and II opponents at the FinnGrinaker Cobber Open.

The Cobbers lost the next seven matches in the meet, with six of the bonus-point variety. The closest match down the stretch came at 174 where senior Kaden Spindler lost 6-3. He was tied at 2-2 heading into the third period, but then an escape from the restart and a takedown proved to be the deciding factor in the 3-point loss.
