Bogart Named Academic All-American
MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/04/21)---Former Concordia wrestling standout Benjamin Bogart (Alexandria, Minn.) received CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. Bogart was selected to the Division III CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team in the team "at-large" category.
Bogart becomes the first Cobber student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors since Matthew Lilllehaugen earned the award in track and field in 2017. He is only the second Concordia wrestler to receive the honor. Adam Presler was named CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2017.
Bogart was one of only three student-athlete from the MIAC to receive Academic All-American honors in the "at-large" category – and one of only six wrestlers in all of Division III to receive the award.
The Division III men's at-large academic list is made up of a 15-person first team, 16-person second team and 14-person third team student-athletes. The men's at-large category includes student athletes from 12 men's sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Bogart finished his Concordia academic career with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while majoring in Physics and Mathematics. He was a 4-year member of the Cobber wrestling team who competed in the NWCA Division III National Meet this year. During his athletic career with the Cobbers, Bogart posted a Top 8 finish at the 2019 NCAA Upper Midwest Regional Meet and won 24 matches during that season.
Off the mat, Bogart was a Tech Advisor for the Minnesota Space Grant Consortium (MnSGC) Intercollegiate Quadcopter Challenge.
The Academic All-America program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes, who have already earned Academic All-District first-team honors, are eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America team. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institutions, have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members, along with sports information directors in the various divisions. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
