Eight NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/04/21)---Concordia had eight individuals earn National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American honors. Jacob Arends, Tyler Bents, Benjamin Bogart, Connor Chloupek, Kellen Schauer, Alex Skaare, Bret Wilson and Gabe Zierden all received the academic honor handed out by the NWCA.

Schauer, Skaare and Zierden all earn NWCA All-American honors for the second straight season.  

This season, due to COVID-19 protocols that kept many conferences and their teams sidelined, the Division III Leadership Group was moved to make changes to this year's awards program.  Most notably, the team component has been suspended until next season with recognition going to individuals only.  It was also decided that athletes unable to compete this season would be eligible for nomination and could receive All-America status.

Bogart and Schauer led the group of academic award winners. Both student/athletes have a 4.0 grade point average. Bogart graduated this year with a major in Physics and Mathematics while Schauer just completed his sophomore season and is majoring in Healthcare Financial Management. Arends has a 3.47 GPA while majoring in Business Finance, Bents is majoring in Business Management and carries a 3.47 GPA, Bogart is a 4.0 GPA student/athlete while majoring in Physics and Mathematics, Chloupek completed his first year as a Cobber and has a 3.42 GPA with a majors in Nutrition and Dietetics and Exercise Science, Schauer is majoring in Healthcare Financial Management and also has a 4.0 GPA, Skaare graduated with a major in Political Science and had a 3.29 GPA, Wilson is majoring in Computer Science and also carries a 3.29 GPA while Zierden has a 3.40 GPA with and is majoring in Exercise Science.

Both Skaare and Zierden also earned NWCA All-American honors on the mat. The pair qualified for this year's DIII championship meet hosted by the NWCA and finished in the top 8 of their weight class. Skaare placed seventh at 174 and Zierden was runner-up at 197.

Of the eight wrestlers who earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors, seven qualified for the NWCA championship meet.
