Big Bonus Point Bonanza

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/1/17)—Concordia had seven individual match wins against St. John's and six of those were of the "bonus point" variety. The Cobbers used three major decisions, two pin falls and an injury default to beat the Johnnies 33-13 in Collegeville.

The win is the 10th in the last 12 for the Cobbers over the Johnnies. Concordia is now 9-7 in dual meets this year while the Johnnies fall to 6-4.

The three biggest bonus point wins came in a consecutive stretch at 141, 149 and 157 after Concordia had fallen behind 10-6.

The Cobbers started the match with its first bonus point victory when Aaron Dick won 14-6 at 125 but then CC had to forfeit the match at 133 to drop into a 6-4 deficit.

Junior Adam Presler then upped his team-leading win total to 21 by posting a pin fall at the 2:01 mark in his bout at 141. Ty Johnson grabbed the baton and posted his own pin fall at 149. Johnson went 2:15 before putting his opponent's shoulders on the mat. No.6-ranked Cole Sladek finished off the decisive three-match stretch by recording a 16-4 win at 165.

The three momentum-building victories put Concordia up 20-6 and gave the Cobbers a comfortable margin for the final five matches. CC would win three of the final five bouts to finish off the 20-point win.

Jake Johnson earned the six-point injury default win at 174 and then Kody Van Den Eykel and No.9-ranked Justice Davis capped off the team win with victories in the final two matches. Van Den Eykel scored the last bonus point win when he posted an 11-3 major decision win at 197.

Davis scored a takedown in the first period and added on riding time to win his match at 285 3-2.

NATIONALLY-RANKED ROLL: Both of Concordia's nationally ranked wrestlers rolled to wins on Wednesday. Cole Sladek, who is ranked sixth at 157, won by a major decision and No.9-ranked Justice Davis grabbed the 3-2 win at 285. Sladek is now 12-1 on the year and Davis upped his season mark to 19-5.

AARON DICK GOES LIGHTWEIGHT: Junior Aaron Dick dropped down in weight class for the first time this season. The team's regular wrestler at 133 went to 125 for the dual because of an injury to All-American Jakob Stageberg. Dick has now won three of his past four matches and is 10-12 on the year.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will step outside dual-meet matches to participate in their final multi-team invitational of the year. The Cobbers will head to Wisconsin to compete in the Don Parker Open hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire.
