One-Goal Leads Are Lost

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (1/26/18)---Concordia rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the second period to grab leads of 2-1 and 3-2 only to have St. Thomas return the favor and tie the game in the final six minutes of regulation as the teams skated to a 3-3 overtime draw.

Senior Emily Goff had two of the team's three goals as Concordia improved its MIAC point total to 15. The Cobbers are now tied for third place in the conference standings but only two points out of first place. CC is now 6-2-3 in league play and 9-6-3 overall.

The teams skated through a scoreless first period before St. Thomas (10-3-5/6-1-4 MIAC) opened the scoring with an even-strength goal at the 2:55 mark of the second period.

Concordia would erase the 1-0 deficit in less than three minutes when Goff tallied the first of her two strikes on the power play at 5:29. Abbie Canton earned the assist on the game-tying goal.

Cobber leading scorer Amanda Flemming would then give CC their first lead of the game when she netted an even-strength marker midway through the middle frame. Maddie Ellingson was credited with the assist on the goal that would give Concordia a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

The Tommies earned the first of their two game-tying goals in the third period in the second minute of play. They evened the score at 2-2 at the 1:02 mark and, like their goal at the start of the second period, Concordia quickly had an answer.

St. Thomas would tie the game for the last time in the final six minutes of regulation when they converted their third even-strength goal of the game at the 14:42 mark.

The game went back and forth in the final five minutes of regulation and then the five minutes of overtime as both teams had chances to win the game. UST held a 7-3 edge in shots in the final 10 minutes of play after the final goal.
