Another Power Play Exhibition

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (11/26/16)—Concordia's power play showed no signs of being in a Thanksgiving Day turkey sleep against Marian. The Cobbers picked up right where they left off before the holiday by scoring three power play goals and beating the Sabres 5-2.

Concordia entered the non-conference weekend ranked third in the nation in the power play and went 3-for-7 against Marian to grab their fifth win of the year.

The Cobbers have now won four of their last five games and are 5-1-1 on the season. Marian loses for the second straight game and drops to 2-5-0.

The game started out like a "shinny" game the day after Thanksgiving. Both teams decided to concentrate on offense, forgot to play defense and allowed a goal in the first minute of play.

Marian started the first-minute scoring spree by getting on the board at the 22-second mark. The Cobbers then took control of the puck and scored 34-seconds later when freshman Amanda Flemming scored her second goal of the year. Jessica Kongelf picked up the first of her two assists on the day.

Maddie Ellingson would score the first CC power play goal of the game at the 11:33 mark. Kongelf was credited with the assist on the goal that gave the Cobbers a 2-1 lead.

Marian would tie the game with 15-seconds left in the opening period and the teams would skate to the first break tied at 2-2.

Concordia found their game in the second period and didn't allow another goal for the final 40 minutes. Senior Amber Schaack scored the game-winning goal at 8:35 of the second stanza. Jess Nelson and Abbie Canton would record the assists on Schaack's third goal of the season.

Canton, Schaack and Nelson would combine on the Cobbers' fourth goal. Canton scored the first of two power play goals at 11:34 of the third period. Schaack and Nelson both picked up their second points of the game.

Canton would strike again on the power play 2-minutes later.  She netted her second score of the game and third of the season at 13:34. Morgan Bruns was credited with the assist on the final goal of the game.

The Cobbers outshot the Sabres 24-19 for the game, including 18-13 in the last two periods of play. Canton and Flemming each had three shots to lead CC and eight different players had two shots each.

Concordia senior goalie Andrea Klug made 17 saves and lowered her season goals against average to 2.80.
