Klug Makes History With National Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/15)—A day after being named the MIAC Player of the Week, junior goalie Andrea Klug was placed on the D3hockey.com National First Team of the Week.

The award is a brand new honor this season being handed out by the national website D3hockey.com. It is only the second week of the award and Klug becomes the first player in the history of the MIAC to be named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week.

Klug earned the national first team honors for her back-to-back shutout performance against St. Benedict. Klug stopped all 56 shots she faced in the Cobbers' two wins over the Blazers on the opening weekend of the MIAC season.

The two victories helped Concordia jump out to a tie for the lead in the MIAC standings. The Cobbers are now 2-2-0 in all games after having dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to No.10-ranked Wis.-Stevens Point.

With the two shutouts, Klug lowered her season goals against average to 1.68 and raised her save percentage to 94.4%. She is currently tied for fifth in all of Division III in shutouts on the season and is also in the top 25 in both GAA and save percentage.

The back-to-back shutouts is the first by a single Concordia netminder since Madison Denny accomplished the feat back in 2013 when she blanked St. Mary's in a weekend series on Feb. 15-16.

Klug will put her shutout streak on the line when Concordia hosts St. Catherine in a two-game series on Nov. 20-21 at the Moorhead Sports Center.
