A Tale Of Two Different Days
MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/15/17)---If the Cobber Spring Invite was a psychology patient it would have a split personality disorder.
The opening tournament of the the spring was played in two completely different weather conditions.
Friday's round was played in a howling 25-30 mph wind at the Meadows GC and moved the actual par of 72 to a gale-adjusted 82. The second round was played in near-calm conditions at Village Green GC and allowed players to compete at a much-more normal pace.
Concordia used the calm conditions on Saturday and improved their overall team score by 24 shots to finish second.
The Cobbers ground out a 387 in the first round and then came home in 363 on Saturday. Junior Erin Pennington led CC by finishing with a two-round total of 179 and earning her first Top 3 finish of the year. Pennington survived Friday with a 95 and then fired an 84 on Saturday to finish in third place.
Katie Krueger was right behind Pennington. She shot a 94 on Friday and then came home with an 86 on Day 2. Her two-round total of 180 was good for a tie for fourth place. The 86 is a career low for the freshman and she gains the first Top 20 finish of her career.
Katie Froemke and Emily Ladd carded identical totals of 206. Froemke struggled to a 112 in the wind on Friday and then carved 18 strokes of that total to post a 94 on Saturday. Ladd had a 107 on Day 1 and then finished with a 99.
The "tough luck" award for the tournament went to senior Emily Grace Olson who led the Cobbers after Day 1 when she shot a 91. Unfortunately she was disqualified on Saturday after her entire group of three played from the incorrect tee boxes.
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will head to the Twin Cities next weekend to compete in the Bethel Spring Invite at Deer Run GC in Victoria.
