Johnson Leads Cobbers At MIAC Meet x 2

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/05/15)—Junior Hayley Johnson fired back-to-back rounds in the 80's on the final two days of the MIAC Championship and led the Cobbers to their second consecutive eighth-place finish.

Johnson finished with a three-round total of 264 which was good for a tie for 31st place in the final individual standings.

Concordia wound up with a total team score of 1076 (349-371-356) for the three days at Bunker Hills Golf Course. The Cobbers also finished eight at last year's conference meet with a total of 1022.

Johnson stumbled coming out of the starting gate in the opening round but then regained her scoring touch and posted the best total by a Concordia player for the second straight season. She opened with a 90 on Saturday but then backed that up with an 86 on Saturday and an 88 in the final round on Monday.

Emily Grace Olson, playing in her first conference meet, was second on the team in scoring. Her hiccup came in the second round. She started the tournament with an 84 and was in a tie for 12th place heading into the second round. Olson struggled on Sunday and posted a 97 but then rallied to shoot an 85 on Monday and finish with a three-day total of 266. She was just two shots behind Johnson and finished in a tie for 35th place.

Concordia had one other golfer finish in the 30's in the individual standings at the meet. Tiffany Swanson was the most consistent of the five Cobber golfers and tied for 39th place with a total of 272. She shot identical scores of 90 in the first two rounds and then posted a 92 in the final round.

Erin Pennington and Emily Ladd were the final two members of the Cobbers' conference tournament team. Pennington, who came into the MIAC Meet with the second best scoring average on the team, had a hard time in the second round and finished in 43rd place at 274 (85-98-91). Ladd, playing in her very first conference meet, came home in 52nd place with a three-day total of 300 (99-102-99).
