A Third Different Team No.1

LAKE CITY, Minn. (9/20/15)—Erin Pennington became the third different Concordia golfer to lead the team at a tournament this year as she used her hometown knowledge to record identical scores of 84 (168) and finish in a tie for 25th at the DIII Classic tournament held at the Jewel Golf Club.

Pennington, who grew up in the same town as the golf course, had back-to-back 84's to help the Cobbers place 10th at the 17-team event. Concordia fired a total of 353 on the first day on Saturday and then did that three better by carding a 350 on Sunday. Their two-day total of 703 is the best team score of the year. The Day 2 total of 350 also ties for the low team round of 2015.

Pennington joins Emily Grace Olson and Hayley Johnson as the team's No.1 golfer at a tournament. Olson shot the low team score at the season-opening St. Benedict Invite and then Hayley Johnson was No.1 at the Bethel Invite last weekend.

Pennington's total of 168 is a season best two-day score. She shot a 174 last weekend and is now averaging 87.3 strokes per round in 2015. That is the second lowest total on the team.

Johnson was the team's No.2 golfer at the DIII Classic. She also had two rounds in the 80's and came home at 173. That was good for a tie for 35th place. Johnson has recorded six straight rounds in the 80's this season and leads the team with an 85.5 average.

Olson and Tiffany Swanson tied for the third spot on the team over the weekend. Olson recorded identical 91's for the tournament while Swanson went 90-92. Both players finished at 182 and were tied for the No.45 spot in the individual standings.

Olson is averaging 90.0 for her six rounds this year and Swanson is right behind at 91.5.

Cierra Waverek was the team's No.5 golfer at the meet. She recorded a total of 191 (101-90).

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will finish off the regular season portion of their schedule next weekend when they compete in the College City Challenge at Bellwood Oaks GC in Hastings.
