Sieben Joins The 1000-Point Club
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/01/25)---In the end, the only drama in the Cobbers' matchup with third-place Hamline was when senior Carlee Sieben would score her 1,000th career point.
Concordia took the drama out of the team game by leading wire-to-wire against the Pipers in a convincing 76-57 win.
Sieben, on the other hand, kept the Cobber faithful in their seats until 4:15 left in the fourth quarter when she connected on a running mid-range jumper which gave her 1,000 career points. Sieben needed 11 points heading into Saturday's game to join teammate Makayla Anderson in the 1,000-point club and she finished the day with that exact number. Sieben becomes the 30th player in Cobber program history to achieve that scoring milestone.
Sieben's milestone moment and the overall play of the entire team helped Concordia end a 2-game losing streak. The win gets the Cobbers to 7-5 in conference play and into sole possession of sixth place in the league standings. CC is 12-7 overall.
Hamline loses for the first time in three games and falls into a 3-way tie for third place in the MIAC standings. HU is 13-6 in all games and a game ahead of the Cobbers at 8-4 in league play.
It was all Concordia inside Memorial Auditorium. The Cobbers scored the first 12 points in the game, held an 8-point lead after the first quarter, built the margin to 21 points at the half and never led by fewer than 18 points in the second half.
Concordia's frontline led the way to the win. The Cobbers were able to get the ball inside and had interior players Anderson and Greta Tollefson combine for 31 points. CC also enjoyed a considerable advantage on the glass where they outrebounded the Pipers 39-22. Concordia also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds which helped the Cobbers come away with 19 second-chance points. The 13 offensive rebounds are the second-highest total for Concordia this season.
The quality game around the basket led to the Cobbers shooting 41.7% (25-for-60) from the floor and gave them a big edge at the free throw line. CC went 18-for-21 from the foul line while Hamline only attempted nine free throws and made six of those attempts.
Concordia also went 8-for-22 (36.4%) from outside the arc.
Sieben finished the game with her 11 points and knocked down one shot from outside the arc. She needs five 3-pointers to break the school record of 180 career 3-pointers set by current Cobber assistant coach Alley Fisher from 2012-15. Sieben now has 176 3-pointers in her career.
Anderson went 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 from the free throw line to finish with a game-high 19 points. She also had nine rebounds.
The Cobber rebound crew was led by junior Molly Musland who hustled her way to a season-high 10 rebounds. Musland also added six points and five assists.
Tollefson tied her season-high point total. She was 4-for-5 from the floor and had 12 points to go with five rebounds.
Concordia will look to keep moving up in the MIAC standings when they host St. Olaf on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
