Cobbers Can't Find Offensive Rhythm And Fall In Quarterfinals

ST. PETER, Minn. (02/23/22)---Concordia was never able to find an offensive rhythm in its MIAC quarterfinal game at Gustavus and lost 53-41.

The Cobbers shot 30.8% (16-for-52) from the field and 26.7% (4-for-15) from 3-point range as they were eliminated from the conference postseason tournament.

The key stretch of the game was sandwiched around the halftime break. Concordia trailed by a single point at 25-24 after Emily Beseman made a layup with 3:50 left to play in the second quarter. The Cobbers wouldn't put a point on the board for the rest of the half, and were outscored 10-0 during that stretch. CC trailed 35-24 at the break, and then Gustavus scored the first eight points of the third quarter to push the margin to 19 points at 43-24.

Concordia (7-16) made a run late in the fourth quarter as they scored the last 11 points in the game to trim the deficit down to 12 points.

The Cobbers were outrebounded 44-27 in the game and the Gusties held a 22-20 edge in points in the paint.

Gustavus (20-4) shot 37.3% (19-for-51) from the floor and 41.7% (5-for-12) from outside the arc.

Beseman led the Cobbers in scoring she was 2-for-4 from distance and finished with 14 points. She also added three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Mary Sem was the only other Concordia player to score more than three points in the game. She was 6-for-10 from the floor and had 12 points.

Maddie Guler, Jennie Sem and Makayla Anderson all came away with a team-high four rebounds.
