Confidence Continued

MOORHEAD, Minn. (01/08/22)---On Thursday, Concordia used a second-half comeback to end a losing streak and post its first win of 2022. On Saturday, the Cobbers used that confidence to cruise past St. Scholastica 76-47.

Concordia never trailed in the game as they won for the second straight game and earned their third overall win of the year. CC is now 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

The Cobber defense was the start of the show on Saturday. CC forced 25 turnovers and held the Saints to single-digit point totals for two of the four quarters. The 25 forced miscues also led to a 34-4 advantage in points off of turnovers for Concordia.

The 25 turnovers forced is a season best for the Cobbers. The 47 points allowed is also the fewest by a Concordia opponent this year.

Like Thursday's win over St. Olaf when freshman Makayla Anderson put up team-high stat totals, the Cobbers were led by another first-year player on Saturday. Symone Beld posted a season-best 16 points and added six rebounds. Both totals were tops for a Cobber player in the game. Beld went 6-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-3 from outside the arc.

Beld was one of three Concordia starters who finished in double figures in points. Senior Mary Sem was 6-for-9 from the floor and had 12 points. She has now scored at least 10 points in three straight games and five of the last six contests.

Emily Beseman earned the "stat line stuffer" award for the day. She came away with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Her assists and steal totals were the most by any player in the game.

Concordia shot 48.4% (31-for-64) from the field and 22.2% (4-for-18) from distance in the game. The 32 made field goals are the most in a single game for CC this season.

The Cobbers also had the chance to play 15 players in the game with 13 scoring at least two points in the contest.

UP NEXT: Concordia's next contest will be on Wednesday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Minneapolis to take on Augsburg at 5:15 p.m. The Cobbers were originally schedule to play at Gustavus on Monday, Jan. 10, but due to Covid protocol, the were awarded a win by forfeit.
