Tough Title Game vs. Elmhurst

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (11/26/16)—Concordia ran into a tough, unbeaten Elmhurst team and lost 61-42 in the championship game of the Rocky Mountain Classic.

The Cobbers struggled in the first and third quarters as they were outscored by nine in the opening period and by 15 coming out of halftime.

Concordia goes 1-1 in Colorado over the weekend and is now 3-3 on the year. The Bluejays remain perfect on the season as they up their overall record to 6-0.

Elmhurst used an 11-1 run in the first quarter to grab the nine-point lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Concordia shot 10.0% (1-for-10) from the field and went 0-for-6 from outside the arc in the opening period of play.

The Cobbers had their best quarter in the second when they outscored the Bluejays 17-13. CC got to within three points at the 6:22 mark when Jenna Januschka made a layup to bring the score to 19-16. After Elmhurst took a timeout they were able to knock down a 3-pointer on the next possession and keep the lead at six points for the remainder of the half.

The Bluejays won the game in the third quarter when they scored 16 of the first 19 points, finished with 21 total points in the period, shot 75.0% (3-for-4) from long range and 52.6% (10-for-19) from the floor. Elmhurst.

Januschka finished with a team-high 15 points and added seven rebounds. She was the only Cobber player with more than seven points in the game. Senior Crystal Amundson and sophomore Lincoln Haiby both had six rebounds.

Concordia had its coldest shooting game of the year. The Cobbers finished the game by shooting 28.6% (14-for-49) from the floor and 6.7% (1-for-15) from 3-point range. CC went 0-for-6 from outside the arc in the second half.

Elmhurst shot 37.3% (22-for-59) from the floor and 45.0% (9-for-20) from long range.

The Cobbers outrebounded the Bluejays 41-37 but committed 20 turnovers in the game which allowed Elmhurst to hold a 24-11 edge in points in the paint.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TIME: Senior Jenna Januschka was named to the Rocky Mountain Classic All-Tournament Team. Januschka averaged 16 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two games in Colorado. She went 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the floor and also had four steals and three assists.
