Gavin Is National Pitcher of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/31/21)---Megan Gavin was named the Wilson/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Pitcher of the Week.

Gavin becomes the first Concordia player in school history to earn the NFCA national honor. She is also only the third pitcher from the MIAC to be named National Pitcher of the Week in the past five years.

Gavin earned NFCA DIII National Pitcher of the Week honors because of her other-worldly performance over a span of four games last week. She appeared in four games, pitched 17.1 innings, didn't allow an earned run and struck out 36.

If her ridiculous stat line wasn't enough, Gavin also set a school record in the process. She became the first pitcher in school history to throw a 5-inning no-hitter and recorded all 15 outs by a strikeout. Her record-setting performance came on Saturday in the team's 15-0 win over North Central.

Gavin almost duplicated her Saturday outing on Sunday when she threw a 1-hit, shutout and fanned 14 batters in 6.0 innings in an 8-0 win for the Cobbers.

Gavin started her award-winning week by pitching against Division II MSU Moorhead. She recorded the final out in the 19-10 win in the opener and then gave up only four hits and didn't allow an earned run in a hard-luck 2-1 loss.

Gavin recorded 52 outs in her 17.1 innings of work last week and 36 of those came via the strikeout.

Gavin has 98 strikeouts this year which is tied for the lead in all of Division III. She has a season ERA of 1.11 which is second in the MIAC.

Gavin now has 375 career strikeouts which is second on the school's all-time strikeout list. Abby Haraldson holds the school record with 440 Ks which she accumulated from 2014-18.

Gavin will look to continue her season success when she leads the Cobbers against St. Benedict in a home doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 3.
