Pake Named MIAC Player of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/02/20)---Sophomore Maria Pake used red-hot 8-hit performance in three games to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors. Pake went 8-for-10 in the first three games of Concordia's spring training trip in Florida to earn the award for the first time in her career.

Pake is the first Cobber position player to be named the MIAC Player of the Week since 2012 when Kaia Sele earned the award on Apr. 16.

Pake's monster week helped the Cobbers go 2-1 in their first three games in Florida which ups their overall record to 4-1 for the season.

To make her hitting performance even more special, six of the eight hits went for extra bases. She had four doubles and two triples to start the spring trip. Pake also scored six runs, drove in five others and stole a couple of bases just to put the finishing touches on her 3-game explosion.

Pake's outlandish .800 hitting average was complimented by a 1.60 slugging percentage and an .818 on-base percentage.        

Pake started the warm-weather stretch for the Cobbers by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in the team's 12-4, 5-inning win over Northern Vermont-Johnson. She had a double and a triple and stole her two bases for the 3-game stretch.

She then backed the opening game of the trip up with a 1-for-2 outing in a 10-4 loss against St. Joseph's (N.Y.).  She drove in two of Concordia's four runs with a double in the second inning.

Pake closed out her hitting clinic by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored a single RBI in the 13-1 victory against Elizabethtown. All three of her hits in the game were for extra bases as she had a triple to lead off the first inning, an RBI double in the second and then another 2-bagger to lead off the fourth.

Pake is now hitting a ridiculous .765 in the team's first five games of the year. She has 27 total bases and a .778 slugging percentage. Pake also has a team-best 13 RBI and 10 runs scored to go along with a perfect 3-for-3 stolen base scoresheet.

Pake will look to continue her hitting tear when she takes the field with the Cobbers for six more games in Florida. The next games for CC will come on Tuesday, Mar. 3 when they square off against Mitchell (Conn.) and Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) at the Hancock Recreational Complex in Clermont, Fla.
