Pake & Gavin Earn All-MIAC Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/13/19)---Youth was served for the Cobbers on the this year's MIAC All-Conference honors. Freshman Maria Pake was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team while sophomore pitcher Megan Gavin earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Nicole Johannes was the team's selection to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Cobbers have now had at least one MIAC All-Conference honoree for five straight seasons and 25 of the past 26 years.

Pake, the team's starting shortstop, led Concordia in hitting the entire season. She hit .388 for the entire year and had a hit in 29 of the 37 games she played. In conference play Pake had a .292 average and a team-best .462 slugging percentage. Pake alos led the team in hits (19), doubles (8), total bases (30) and stolen bases (7) against league opponents.

Pake was also the team's most consistent hitter as she had at least one hit in 16 of the 22 conference contests and had three multiple-hit games.

Gavin pitched in 14 of the 22 MIAC games and came away with a 4.27 earned run average. She was the winning pitcher in both of the Cobbers' league wins. Gavin pitched 85.1 innings in conference play and had 62 strikeouts. Both of her innings pitched and strikeout totals are almost double of what she posted in her freshman season in 2018.

Gavin was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 11 after going 6-1 in the team's spring break trip to Florida. She had a 1.56 ERA in the Sunshine State and struck out 60 batters in 45.0 innings pitched. Gavin became the first Cobber player to earn an MIAC Player of the Week honor since 2012.

Gavin also became the fifth player in school history to reach the 200 strikeout mark. Gavin ended the 2019 campaign with 148 Ks in all games and now has 223 strikeouts in her 2-year career.
