A Spirited Senior Celebration Day

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/29/12)—Concordia dropped a pair of one-run decision against Macalester in the final doubleheader of the 2012 season on Sunday. The Cobbers lost 3-2 in the opener and then conceded the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and lost 2-1 in the second game.
 
The doubleheader was part of the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day and also Senior Celebration Sunday. Fighting a strong wind blowing in from right-center field, Concordia had the same number of hits in the two games as the Scots but went 4-for-30 (.133) with runners on base. The two losses end the Cobbers' season with an 8-27 overall record and a 6-16 mark in league play. CC lost their final nine MIAC games.

Concordia fell behind 3-0 in the opener but then scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. CC had four of their seven hits in the first game in the final two frames. Kaia Sele led the Cobber hit attack as she went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Kayla Hendrickson was 2-for-3 while Kesley Jones came away with the other RBI.

CC freshman MacKenzie Weatherly went the distance in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits and struck out three.

The second game was won in the final inning. After the teams traded single runs in the second and fourth innings, the Scots scored the game winner on a single to right-center field. Concordia had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. The Cobbers had runners on first and second with two outs but then a strike out ended the game.

Emily Salo went 3-for-3 in the second game and finished the day 3-for-4. Kelly Tasky was 2-for-4 and was the only other CC player with more than one hit in the game. Hendrickson went 1-for-3 and drove in the lone CC run. She went 3-for-6 on the day.

Jones allowed two earned runs on six hits for the Cobbers. She struck out one in her final appearance for the maroon and gold.
