Newcomers Lead The Way In Season Opener

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (9/01/15)—Fans of the Cobber men's cross country team might have to check out the roster page in order to recognize the top finishers at the season-opening Jamestown Dual Meet. Concordia had three newcomers place in the top seven of the meet in a 31-26 loss to the Jimmies.

The new influx of talent will help Concordia as they start their campaign towards the MIAC Meet late in October.

Junior Brandon Quibell led the Concordia contingent by finishing in a time of 17:52.12 and placing fourth. This is Quibell's first year on the cross country team. He was a member of the CC track and field squad last spring.

Race Heitkamp and Luke Lillehaugen were the other two newcomers to finish in the top 7. Hietkamp, with the most appropriate first name of any athlete at Concordia, crossed the line in 18:33.24 and was sixth. Lillehaugen was seventh in his very first collegiate meet in a time of 18:42.40.

The top returner for Concordia was Erik Larson who ran an 18:22.99 over the 5K course and placed fifth.

Will Corbett and Ryan Turner recorded top 10 finishes by placing ninth and 10th.

QUOTABLE
"The conditions were hot, so times were slow, but it was exciting to see the guys run. Three of our top 5 guys are new to the team this fall. It's clear we have room to improve over the course of the season."
- Head Coach Garrick Larson on the season-opening meet at Jamestown.

WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia will have to wait 10 days for their next meet. The Cobbers will participate in the first-ever MSU Moorhead Twilight Meet which will be held at the Moorhead Soccer Complex beginning at 8:45 p.m.
