2 Wrights Don't Make A Wrong At Carleton Relays

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/23/22)---Senior All-American Cal Wright won both the 200 and 400 meters at the Carleton Relays and helped the Cobbers finish third in the final team standings.

Wright was a part of the Concordia squad that posted 12 Top 3 finishes, 10 personal best marks and five marks that are in the Top 15 on the school's all-time list.

Besides Wright, the other event winner for the Cobbers was All-American Cooper Folkestad who won the shot put with a mark of 50-10.25 which was three feet farther than any other competitor in the field.

Wright won the 200 meters with a time of 22.43, and then captured the 400 by crossing the line in 49.21. Both times are currently in the Top 7 of the MIAC. His time in the 200 meters is seventh in the conference this season and his 400 mark is third fastest.

Freshman Tommy Kern competed in his first outdoor meet of the season and put up the fourth fastest time in program history in the 100-meter dash. He clocked a 10.91 which good for second place in the meet, and the fourth fastest in the conference this year.

Kern was also third in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.59. That time is 11th fastest in school history.

Fellow freshman Nolan Morical was sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.20 which is tied for No.14 on the school's all-time list.

Jesse Middendorf was part of the Cobber Top 3 crew. He posted a time of 1:58.02 in the 800 meters which was good for third place and his top time of the 2022 outdoor season.

The other Top 3 individual track finish came in the 3000-meter steeplechase where Cole Nowacki covered the circuit in a time of 10:14.29.

Both of the Cobber relay teams placed second at the meet. The 4x100 team of Dawson Schaffer, Nolan Valdez, Morical and Kern came through with a time of 43.26 which is No.13 on the Cobber all-time list. The 4x400 squad of Colin Schuller, Hayden Gagnon, Trevor Tiongson and Wright ran a time of 3:28.77.

Gagnon also found success as an individual as he posted PRs in the 200 and 400. He ran a 23.20 and finished fifth in the 200, and came home in 50.14 in the 400 which was good for third place. His time in the 400 is also the 13th fastest in school history.

Wade Rhonemus and Jake Kerzman joined Folkestad as Top 3 finishers in field events. Rhonemus wwas third in the pole vault with a height of 13-06.25. That mark was tops at the meet, but Rhonemus placed third due to misses at lower heights.

Kerzman placed third in the discus. He was also sixth in the hammer throw and eighth in the shot put. Kerzman's Top 3 distance in the discus was 138-00. He currently owns the third best mark in the MIAC at 147-08 which came at the SJU Invite.
