MIddendorf Wins 800 At NDSU Meet

FARGO, N.D. (4/02/21)---Junior Jesse Middendorf has opened the outdoor season the same way he finished the indoor season – by running down school records.

Middendorf was the only non-Division I athlete to win a track event at the NDSU Spring Classic on Friday. Middendorf won the 800 meters in a time of 1:52.09 which is the second fastest in school history and fastest by a CC runner since 1988. He was only .15 of a second off the school record set by Greg Defor.

Middendorf won the event by .29 of a second over a runner from North Dakota State. His finishing time is also the second fastest in Division III this year - only .02 of a second off the top spot.

Middendorf was one of only a handful of Cobber competitors at the meet as the majority of the team took a break for the Easter Weekend.

The other top performances of the day came in the throws. Freshman Cooper Folkestad had Top 10 finishes in both the shot put and discus. He was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 50-01.25. That mark is a PR and the eighth farthest in school history. Folkestad was also ninth in the discus. His best toss of the day was measured at 143-11 which is also a PR and in the Top 20 in program history.
