Elite 8 Headed To Elite Meet

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/9/21)---Concordia will be well represented at the DIII Elite Indoor Championship Meet at Warburg College this weekend. The Cobbers will send a pair of track athletes, a trio of field athletes and two relay teams to the meet that will have athletes from 38 different schools.

Senior Cal Wright and junior Jesse Middendorf will race in the 400 and 800. The field contingent consists of throwers Jacob Steiner and Cooper Folkestad and multi-event specialist Wade Rhonemus.

Wright and Middendorf will be joined by Munir Isahak, Dan Wilson and Colin Schuller to race in the Distance Medley Relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

Rhonemus will kickoff the DIII Elite Meet for Concordia when he competes in the 60-meter hurdles in the first event of the pentathlon on Friday at 10 a.m. He will also run the 1000 meters, compete in the long jump, shot put and high jump to finish all five events on Friday.

Rhonemus competed in one multi-event this season and posted a score of 2,788 points. He is seeded 10th in the event which has 15 competitors.

Wright will race in the 400 meters on Friday and Middendorf will follow in the 800 meters on Saturday. Wright owns a top time of 50.30 in the 400 which is eighth best among the 15 participants. He will be in Heat No.2 in the event which is scheduled for 3:25 p.m.

Middendorf will have his individual event on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. He will race in the first heat and is the No.4 seed in the 800. His top time of 1:54.09 came at the UND Tune-Up on Feb. 20. His time is the fastest among the MIAC runners at the meet.

Steiner will compete on both days. He is scheduled to participate in the weight throw on Friday at 10 a.m. and then the shot put on Saturday at 10 a.m. Steiner is the No.8 seed in the weight throw but his season-best distance of 54-01.25 is the tops among all athletes in the first flight.

Steiner's top mark in the shot put is 50-05.25 which he posted at the Bison Open in the season opener on Feb. 5. That is the sixth best among the 14 athletes in the 1-flight event.

Folkestad will join Steiner in the shot put. The freshman earned his spot at the meet last weekend when he uncorked the second farthest distance in school history. His mark of 52-04.75 slides him into the No.4 seed in the event.

Friday will feature the distance medley relay team of Wright, Middendorf, Isahak and Wilson. The four recorded their top time of 10:45.85 at the SJU Dual Meet on Feb. 28. That time is the seventh best among the 11-team field which races at 6 p.m.

Wright, Middendorf and Wilson will be joined by Schuller for the 4x400 on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. The quartet is seeded ninth with a season-best time of 3:25.87 which was recorded last weekend at the DJU Invitational.

No spectators will be allowed in the arena but fans can follow the action with live video and results.
