Bye, who will be making his first-ever appearance at the national indoor, will compete in the 7-event heptathlon which starts on Friday, Mar. 8 at 10 a.m. (eastern time). He will go through the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump on Friday and then finish the event on Saturday, Mar. 9 by competing in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meters.

Bye is one of 20 competitors in the heptathlon. The 20 will vie for All-American honors which are given to the Top 8 finishers.

Bye is not a stranger to an NCAA multi-event championship. Last spring he qualified for the decathlon at the NCAA National Outdoor Meet. Bye finished 15th in the national decathlon with a final score of 6,212 points.

Bye earned his spot at this year's national indoor meet by winning the MIAC heptathlon with 4,856 points. He won the event by almost 200 points. Bye's final point total is the second most in school history and 10th best in NCAA Division III this season. He was only 28 points shy of the school record of 4,884 set by Jackson Schepp in 2017 at the MIAC Meet.

Bye becomes the first Cobber athlete to compete at the national indoor meet since Schepp finished 10th in the heptathlon in 2017. Before Schepp the last Cobbers to participate in an NCAA Indoor Meet were Paul Westmark and Paul Shol in the pentathlon in 2009.
