Toivonen & Youngs Earn MIAC Awards

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/04//17)--- Senior Isaac Toivonen and freshman David Youngs were rewarded for their outstanding seasons by being named to the MIAC All-Conference Team.

Toivonen was named to the All-Conference Team for both singles and doubles play while Youngs joined his doubles partner on the postseason honor list.

Toivonen was also selected as the team's representative to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Toivonen earns the second all-conference award of his career. He was also named to the MIAC All-Conference Team for singles in his freshman season in 2015.

It is the first time that Concordia has had more than one athletes earn MIAC All-Conference honors since the 2011 season.

Toivonen had a career year in his junior season in 2017. He went 13-3 in singles play from his spot as the No.1 singles player on the squad. His 13 wins are a career high and the most by a Cobber since the 2011 campaign when Matt Edin went 14-3.

In conference play Toivonen posted an impressive mark of 7-2. The seven league wins was also a career high and most since Edin also went 7-2 in 2011.

Toivonen now has 24 singles wins in his first three years at Concordia and is 24-18 during that time. He is also 16-12 against MIAC opponents.

Toivonen teamed with Youngs to form a solid duo at No.1 singles for the Cobbers. The tandem finished the year with a 9-6 overall record and a mark of 6-3 in conference play. The nine wins is the most by a Concordia doubles team since the 2011 season when Edin teamed with Devin Larson to win 14 matches. The partnership of Edin and Larson went 6-3 in league play as well.

Toivonen and Youngs had more doubles wins in 2017 than the entire Concordia team had in 2016.
