Doubles Kick Start First Conference Win of 2013

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (4/13/13)—Concordia claimed a 6-3 victory over Hamline at the Lakeville Tennis Center on Saturday. The Cobbers won two out of the three doubles matches to kick start the way to their first conference win of the season.

The victory snaps a three-match losing streak that saw Concordia drop all 27 singles and doubles bouts. The Cobber No.1 and No.2 doubles tandems made sure that Saturday would be different as they set the tone with a pair of hard earned wins. Brian Olson and Devin Larson won 8-4 at No.1 doubles and then Peter Dahlberg and Nick Moe won 9-8 in a tie-breaker in a match that proved to be the turning point of the day.

Staked to a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, the Cobbers won four of the final five matches to come away with the 6-3 victory. Larson and Zach Zitur scratched out super-set tie-breaker victories while Moe and Zach Biggar cruised to straight set wins.

Larson dropped the opening set of his match at No.2 singles and then rallied to post a "bagel" win in the second set and then a 10-7 victory in the super-set tiebreaker. Zitur had an eerily similar score line at No. 5 singles. He lost the first set in a tie-breaker then came back for a 6-4 and then a 10-7 win to get the overall team point. Both Larson and Zitur earned their team-leading sixth singles wins of the season.

Moe won 6-3, 6-1 at No.4 singles to earn his fifth win of the year. He is now 5-9 while playing at No.4 singles. Biggar won 6-4, 6-0 at No.6 singles and is now 4-10 on the season.

The Cobbers will hopefully continue with their "hit and miss" spring schedule  when they play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 12 p.m.
