Stat Sheet Yes, Score Line No

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/25/21)---For the second straight game Concordia held the advantage on the stat sheet but was on the wrong end of the score line and lost on the road. The Cobbers outshot regionally-ranked Carleton, but a pair of first-half goals by the Knights sent CC to a 3-1 defeat.

Once again Concordia was forced to chase the game after allowing a goal in the first 15 minutes of play. Carleton got on the board at the 14:50 mark after a penalty area scramble. The ball ricocheted off several players before it was finished from inside of 10 yards.

Carleton (5-1-2, 3-0-0 MIAC) doubled their lead just before the break. A Carleton attacker served the ball into the CC penalty area where it was touched on by a second player and then finished inside the penalty area by a third Knight attacker.

Concordia (2-7-0, 0-3-0 MIAC) gained the momentum heading into halftime when they cut the margin to one, just 31-seconds after the Knights scored. Albara Mutleq hit a laser from 20 yards out that found the upper left corner of the goal. The strike at 42:26 was Mutleq's second goal of the year.

The second half was more of a defensive battle. The teams combined for 15 shots in the first half, but with Carleton content to protect the lead, there were only four total shots in the final 45 minutes of play.

The Knights regained their 2-goal advantage at the 69:15 mark.

The best chance in the final 20 minutes for the Cobbers came from the foot of Patrick Smith who fired a low shot that was saved by the Carleton keeper.

Concordia outshot the Knights 11-8 for the game in total shots and 5-4 in shots on goal.

Junior Telvin Vah led all players as he put up five shots in the game. He now has 36 for the year which leads the MIAC.

Erick Torres got the start in goal for CC and made one save.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host St. John's on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. The Johnnies are 4-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
