Gess Leads Trio Of All-MIAC Winners
MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/12/19)--- Seniors Sam Gess and Henry Schaefer and sophomore Nate Weaver all earned MIAC honors in the annual conference postseason awards release.
Gess earned MIAC All-Conference honors while Schaefer and Weaver were both placed on the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Teams.
It is the first conference postseason honor for all three players.
Senior Aronah Mukhtar, whose season was shortened because of a physical ailment, was the team's selection for the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
The Cobbers have now had at least one player earn All-MIAC honors in four straight seasons and five of the past seven years.
Gess led the team in scoring in all games and MIAC contests. He had five goals and an assist in conference play for 11 points. His five goals was tied for sixth among all league players and his 11 points was tied for seventh. Gess also had 28 shots in the 10 MIAC games which was tied for sixth place.
Gess had at least one point in four conference games and his single-game high point mark came against Hamline when he scored three goals.
Gess finished with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points in all games. The 34 points is the third highest single season total in program history and his 14 goals is fourth most in school history.
Schaefer was the leader of the Cobber defense. He played in seven conference games as the team's central defender. Schaefer was the dominant force in the air for Concordia as he was able to clear balls played into the penalty area through his ability to win headers. He also helped the Cobbers on the offensive end of the field with his ability to take free kicks and cross the ball from the sideline on throw-ins.
Schaefer was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Sept. 16.
Weaver finished second in all offensive categories on the season. He had three goals and an assist for seven points in conference play and finished with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points in all games. His 26 overall points are tied for 13th in program history and he is just the 10th player in school history to post a double-digit goal total.
