Late Goal Dampens Senior Day

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/29/16)--- Concordia conceded a goal in the final 15 minutes of their season finale and lost 2-1 to UMAC opponent St. Scholastica.

The late-goal finishes off the Cobbers' year with a 6-11-1 overall record. The Saints end their regular season with two straight wins and head into the UMAC playoffs with an 11-7 overall record.

Concordia played one of its best games of the season in the final game of October. The Cobbers created quality chances in both halves and had several opportunities to tie the game in the final 10 minutes of play. Junior Jacob Schmidt nearly missed with only 2:15 to play in regulation but his shot was stopped by the St. Scholastica keeper.

The Saints held a scant 6-5 edge in shots on goal for the game.  Schmidt led Concordia in shots on goal as he had two shots on frame for the game. Austin Promersberger, Austin Peterson and Wyatt Holwagner all had one shot each for CC.

St. Scholastica got the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick. One of the Saints' attackers was able to go 1-on-1 with a Cobber defender in the penalty area. He pushed the ball by the CC player and was taken down in the process. St. Scholastica converted the spot kick to take a 1-0 lead at 26:21 of the opening period.

Concordia tied the game within 10 minutes of the start of the second half. Holwagner notched his first collegiate goal when he headed home a cross from senior Sage Thornbrugh just inside the back left post. Aronah Mukhtar was credited with the other assist on the play as he gave the ball to Thornbrught on the right wing.

One of the highlight saves of the year was produced by senior Concordia senior Ben Glogoza. St. Scholastica fired a shot and Glogoza dove to make the initial save. A Saints attacker then got a hold of the rebound and tried to lift it over Glogoza who was lying on the ground. Like a cat, Glogoza lifted himself off the ground and swung his big paw and knocked the ball away from the goal as it was headed over the goal line.

St. Scholastica won the game at the 76:29 mark when attacker revived the ball on the left side of the field 45 yards out from goal he then played a pass behind the CC defense to a teammate who ran on to the ball and finished off the breakaway.

Glogoza finished the game with four saves in the game.

BIG BEN: Goalie Ben Glogoza finished the season with 94 saves. That total led the MIAC. Glogoza finished his career with 282 saves which is in the Top 5 all time in program history.
