Conference Woes Continue

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/08/16)—Concordia conference woes continued as they gave up a pair of game-changing goals five minutes apart in the second half and lost 3-0 to Carleton.

The Cobbers, who have excelled against non-MIAC foes, are now 4-7-1 overall and 0-6-6 in league play. The Knights win for the second straight game and are now 6-3-2 in all games and 2-2-1 in the MIAC.

The game could have played out to a different script but Concordia was unable to convert on a couple of chances early in the first half and then had the Carleton goalie come up with a huge save at the start of the second half.

Carleton got on the board in the 31st minute of the first half on a goal from a dead ball just outside the penalty area. The Knight attacker curled a shot around the Cobber wall and inside the post.

Concordia had its best chance of the half in the 43rd minute of play when senior Matthew Fulks had an open chance from inside the penalty area but the Knight keeper came up with a huge save on his right-footed shot.

The Cobbers nearly tied the game 14 minutes into the second half when freshman Aronah Mukhtar took a pass on the left wing and cut in towards the middle of the field. He then sent a curling right-footed shot towards the back post upper corner. His shot appeared to be headed for the back of the net but at the last minute the Carleton goalie was able to touch the ball off the post and out of harm's way.

Carleton would then seize control of the game by scoring a goal at the 65:46 mark and then a header goal at 70:35.

The Knights had a 16-5 edge in total shots for the 90 minutes. Fulks, Mukhtar and Henry Schaefer had the shots on goal for the Cobbers.

Senior goalie Ben Glogoza made eight saves in the game and now has a league-leading 75 saves on the season.
