Growing Pains

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/17/16)—The young Cobbers couldn't match the offensive attack of the No.6-ranked Scots and lost 3-0 in the first conference road game of the season.

Concordia, who starts six newcomers, gave up a single goal in the first half and then two more 12-minutes apart and lost for the second straight game.

The Cobbers, who started the week on a three-game unbeaten string, are now 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC. Macalester remains unbeaten on the year and has won five straight games.

The Scots held the better of the possession play in the first 30 minutes of the game but were never able to come up with a clear chance behind the Cobber defense. The game changed in the 33rd minute when a Macalester attacker was left wide open in the CC penalty area and he pounced on a rebound to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.

Macalester sat back in the second half and waited for Concordia to come out of their defensive third of the field and then got in behind the Cobber defense. The Scots added an insurance tally at 64:42 and then finished off the scoring at 76:35.

The Scots outshot Concordia 20-3 in total shots and 14-1 in shots on goal. The Cobbers' lone shot on goal came off the foot of freshman midfielder Wyatt Holwagner.

CC goalie Ben Glogoza made 11 stops on the day.

THE BIG CAT: Glogoza has now made 49 saves on the year which leads the MIAC. He has stopped at least 10 shots in four of the five games he has played in this year. The three goals allowed on Saturday is the most he has given up this season and pushed his season goals against average to 1.11.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will look to get back on the winning track when they head outside conference play. The Cobbers will travel to Morris to take on Minn.-Morris on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. CC downed the Cougars 4-1 in Moorhead last season. Morris is currently 1-4 on the year and is coming off a 2-1 win over Northland (Wis.).
