A Two-rrific Senior Day Celebration

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/25/15)—A pair of goals in each half two scores from sophomore Jacob Schmidt helped Concordia celebrate a successful Senior Day as the Cobbers downed Minn.-Morris 4-1 in the final home non-conference game of the season.

While Schmidt stole the goal-scoring show with his two tallies, it was a pair of seniors who made their mark on their special day. Senior forward Dami Adegunle scored the game-winning goal and added two assists while senior defender Nick Koerbitz tacked on two assists of his own.

In the end, Concordia had all five seniors contribute during the course of the game as they won for the fourth time at home in 2015. The Cobbers are now 4-2 at the Jake Christiansen Complex this year. CC moves to 4-12-0 in all games.

Morris loses for the first time in the last four games and drops to 5-12-1 on the year. They will be the No.3 seed in the upcoming UMAC tournament.

Schmidt scored set the tone for the game by connecting on his opening goal at the 8-minute mark. He tapped home a ball at the back post after chances from Adegunle and Sage Thornbrugh deflected around the Cougar goal area.

Adegunle gave Concordia a 2-0 lead when he notched his third goal of the season at 23:55. The score came after a throw-in from Thornbrugh was flicked on by Koerbitz.

The teams settled into the game after the second goal and both teams had half chances throughout the remainder of the first half. The Cobbers wound up outshooting Morris 9-4 in the first period of play.

Concordia was unable to withstand the strong start from the Cougars in the second half and a goal at 54:27 brought Morris to within a goal at 2-1.

Schmidt then helped reclaim the two-goal lead just 2:28 later when he chipped home a through ball from freshman defender Ben Olson. Olson took possession of the ball after a clearance from the Morris defense. He then lofted a diagonal crossing ball that found Schmidt on the right wing. Schmidt settled the ball and then lifted a shot over the oncoming Cougar keeper.

The goal was Schmidt's team-leading fifth of the season and third in the past three games. He now has 12 points on the year after only recording two points in his freshman season.

Sophomore Austin Promersberger capped off the scoring sheet when he fired home a shot from five yards out after another flick from the head of Koerbitz. The goal was Promersberger's second of the year while Koerbitz picked up his team-leading seventh assist. He leads all MIAC defenders in assists this year and is tied for third amongst all players in that category.

Adegunle was also credited with an assist on Promersberger's goal and now has 10 points for the year. It is the first time in his three-year at Concordia that he has posted a double-digit season point total.

Concordia finished the game with a 13-11 edge in total shots but both teams had five shots on goal in the 90 minutes of play.

Concordia split the goalkeeping duties with junior Ben Glogoza getting the start and playing the first 71:15. He made four saves to pick up his fourth win of the year. Sophomore Alan Scheuermann finished the game and wasn't called upon to make a stop.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will finish off the 2015 season with a single game at home and one on the road. The Cobbers will host Gustavus in the MIAC finale on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. and then travel to Superior, Wis. To play Wis.-Superior on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
