MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/22/24)---Concordia was never able to get its offense on track and lost 4-0 to Gustavus in the series opener at the Moorhead Sports Center.
The Gusties were able to take control of the game by scoring a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and then held the Cobbers off the board for the full 60 minutes of play.
The loss is the second straight for Concordia, who falls to 4-3-0 in all games and 1-2-0 in the MIAC. Gustavus ups its record to 2-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
The eventual game-winning goal came at the 4:32 mark of the first period when a seeing-eye shot made its way from the right point all the way into the net after it eluded a pile of players in front of the goal.
The second goal was scored midway through the opening frame after the Gusties held the puck in the CC zone and then centered it out front for a 1-time shot that beat Cobber goalie Dane Couture.
Gustavus added a single goal at the end of the second period and another at the start of the third to bring the final total to 4-0. The Gusties third strike came on the power play after the Cobbers were whistled for three straight penalties.
Concordia was outshot 21-16 in the game. Couture made 17 saves in goal for CC.
The Cobbers will look to gain a split in the series when the teams square off on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
