Cobbers Post 4th Straight Top 5 Finish At MIAC Meet

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/04/21)---Concordia posted its fourth straight Top 5 finish at the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers had their best round of the 2021 meet in the final day when they shot a team score of 305 which helped them finish fourth in the final team standings.

Concordia ended the 45-hole conference meet with a team total of 760 (146-309-305). The Cobbers were in second place after Saturday's 9-hole round which was cut short by rain.   

Senior Mason Opheim capped off his conference career by earning his second straight MIAC All-Championship Team award. He finished in ninth in the final individual standings with a 2-over total of 182 (32-76-74) for the 45 holes. He led the tournament after the first nine holes when he carded the 4-under 32.    

Opheim was seventh in the field in total number of birdies for the tournament. He posted 10 birdies in the 45 total holes. He opened the meet by dropping birdie putts on the first two holes and had four birdies, and no bogeys, on the opening day of the meet.

Ryan Jenson and Justin Lamp gave the Cobbers three golfers in the Top 20 in the final individual standings. Jenson came home with a final total of 191 and was in 15th place. He started with a 39 on Day 1 then recorded his best score of the meet with a 74 on Sunday which included two birdies and 12 pars. Jenson ended his second conference meet with a 78 on Day 3. His 74 on Sunday tied his lowest round at a MIAC meet.     

Lamp earned his Top 20 finish by going 4-under on the Par 5 holes. That total was tied for sixth best among the 44 players.    

Lamp opened with a 39 but then stumbled to an 83 on Sunday before rallying to post a 1-over 73 on Day 3. The 73 was the low round shot by any CC golfer at the meet. He had three birdies to go along with 13 pars on Monday. His only blemishes came on holes 7 and 8 where he went bogey-triple bogey.

Lamp finished at 195 in a tie for 18th place.

Mason Plante and Sam Henke were the final two members for the Cobbers at the conference meet. Plante opened with a 37 on Saturday and then posted identical 80s in the final two rounds. He was tied for eighth place after Day 1 and remained in the Top 10 after Sunday, but then dropped to 27th place with a final total of 197.

Henke, who earned All-Conference honors as a freshman last spring, ended his second conference meet with a total of 197. He opened with a 39 and then went 79-82 in the final two rounds.
