3 In The 70s x 2 At SJU Invite

MONTICELLO, Minn. (4/25/21)---Concordia had three golfers shoot in the 70s in both rounds of the St. John's Spring Invitational which helped the Cobbers finish in ninth place in the 19-team tournament.

Concordia also had three golfers improve from Day 1 to Day2 which helped the team improve by three strokes from Friday to Saturday. The Cobbers opened with a team score of 311 at Blackberry Ridge GC in Sartell. They bettered that score with a 308 on Sunday at Monticello CC. The 308 team score in Round 2 is the second lowest of the season for Concordia.  

The Cobbers were led by the bookend pair of senior Mason Opheim and freshman Justin Lamp. Both players finished with a 2-day total of 153 which was good for a tie for 26th place. Opheim and Lamp also carded identical scores in both days. They opened with a 77 on Day 1 and then finished with a 76 on Sunday.

Opheim and Lamp continue to lead CC in the spring season in scoring average. Lamp has a 75.0 average in the five rounds played this spring while Opheim is one back with a 76.0 average.    

Senior Tyler Bossert was the third CC golfer to record both rounds in the 70s. He posted a 78 in both rounds to finish with a final total of 156 which put him in a tie for 41st place.

Samuel Henke and Ryan Jenson were the other two members of the Cobbers to participate in the tournament. Henke finished at 159 (81-78) and Jenson was two shots back at 161 (79-82).

UP NEXT: Concordia will finally get the chance to play in the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will head to Hastings to compete in the conference meet on Apr. 30-May 2 at Emerald Greens GC.
