Spring Success Over Minn.-Morris

WAHPETON, N.D. (4/17/16)—Concordia bested Minn.-Morris in a pair of single-day team matches on the weekend. The Cobbers won 294-339 on Saturday at Pebble Lake GC in Fergus Falls and then recorded a 302-344 victory at Bois de Sioux GC in Wahpeton on Sunday.

The two events were just the second and third of the spring for Concordia as they try and qualify individuals for the NCAA National Meet.

Concordia's team score of 294 on Saturday tied for the low score of the 2015-16 season. The team's other 294 came in the third round of the MIAC Championship Meet in October.

The Cobbers had the four lowest individual scores on Saturday. Junior Cade Montplaisir led the team for the second straight team. Montplaisir led the team at Augsburg Invite with an T11 finish (76-79) and then went under par for the first of the two days with the Cougars. He shot a 71 on Saturday to win the meet by a single shot. The 71 was Montplaisir's second lowest round of the season. He fired a 70 in the second round of the conference tournament.

Teammate Landon Poss was one shot off of Montplaisir by carding an even par 72. Like Montplaisir, that was also his second lowest round of the year. He had a 69 on Round 2 at the MIAC tourney.

Zach Whtichurch and Nathaniel Kalbaugh rounded out the Top 4 on Saturday. Whitchurch came home with a 75 and Kahlbaugh was right behind at 76.

Kahlbaugh had a stellar day on Sunday. He won medalist honors with a one-over-par 72.

He was a part of the Cobber team that claimed the Top 5 spots on the day. Poss posted a runner-up finish for the second straight day. He carded a 74 in his second round of the spring.

Trevor Swangler and Whitchurch tied for third place with identical 75's and Mark Huneke recorded a 78 to finish in fifth place.

A day after winning in Fergus Falls, Montplaisir struggled off the tee and came home with an 81.

Montplaisir and Poss are now tied for the team lead in scoring average over the course of the fall and spring seasons. Both players have a 74.9 average.
