Different Paths Lead To All-MIAC Finish

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/05/15)—Concordia had two golfers take opposite routes to earn MIAC All-Conference honors in helping the Cobbers finish sixth at the MIAC Championship Meet.

Cade Montplaisir, who entered the final day leading the tournament, cleared his path to all-conference honors by going low in the first two rounds. Senior teammate Landon Poss blistered the course on his way to a 69 in the final round to earn his third all-conference award.

Montplaisir finished with a final total of 220 (73-70-77) and placed in a tie for third place while Poss was two shots behind at 22 and came home in a tie for fifth place. Montplaisir earns MIAC All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. His previous best showing at the conference meet was a tie for 22nd place at last year's meet. Poss's fifth-place finish is his second best mark at the MIAC Meet but his final total of 222 (78-75-69) is his best score at the conference meet. He was the runner-up in 2013 with a final total of 223.

Montplaisir's total of 220 is the lowest by a Cobber golfer at the MIAC Meet since 2010 when Andrew Whitchurch won the meet with a score of 215. Poss' round of 69 on Monday is also the lowest since Whitchurch finished off the 2010 meet with an identical score.

The Cobbers completed the three-day tournament with a team score of 915 which was a single shot behind St. John's who finished fifth at 914. CC was 14 shots out of the tie for third place between Bethel and Gustavus.

The team's three-round total of 915 is 13 shots better than last year's total of 928 when they placed fifth. The 915 is the lowest score by a Cobber team since 2013 when they finished fourth at 912. The score of 915 is the second lowest total at a MIAC Meet since the league went to a three-day tournament back in 2003.

Freshmen Nathaniel Kahlbaugh and Sam Hendricks rounded out the top 4 for Concordia. Kahlbaugh improved in each of his three rounds in his very first conference meet. He started with an 82 then went 79 in the second round and finished with a 75 on Monday. Kahlbaugh placed in a tie for 31st with a score of 236. Hendricks ended his first MIAC meet one shot behind Kahlbaugh. He finished with a total of 237 and also improved in all three rounds. Hendricks posted a pair of scores in the 80's for the first two rounds and then capped the meet with a 75.

Trevor Swangler was the final member of the Concordia conference meet team. Like the freshmen, he got better as the weekend wore on. He went 85-82-77 and placed 41st with a total of 244.
