Bio

Sam Peters was hired as the lead full-time assistant coach for the Cobbers in the spring of 2017.

Peters took over the lead assistant position after Grant Hemmingsen was hired as the head coach at the end of the 2016-17 basketball season.

Peters joined the Concordia staff after spending a season as a volunteer coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

During his time with the Mavericks he helped with recruiting and practice planning for the men's basketball program. He was also involved in summer camps as well as preseason workouts and conditioning for the program. 

Peters started his college coaching experience as the lead assistant coach at Bethany Lutheran College. He spent two seasons with the Vikings. During that time he was heavily involved in the recruitment of student/athletes as well planning practices, game plans and on-court coaching. He was also the head coach of the junior varsity team.

Peters has also been heavily involved in AAU basketball. For the past six he has served as a coach and co-director.  Peters started as a coach for the Minnesota Slam AAU program. Following his first year as a coach he moved into the director role along with his coaching duties.  The next year he became the director of Minnesota Slam.  Peters was instrumental in the combination of Minnesota Slam and Southern Minnesota Basketball Academy to create D1MN Rise in the summer of 20114.  For the past three years he has worked with D1MN Rise as the head coach of the under-17 team as well as being the co-director of the program. 

Peters earned his bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato and is scheduled to complete his master's degree in Educational, Sport and Counseling Psychology – Positive Coaching from the University of Missouri in December of 2017.
